A great tango festival begins in Kielce on the 26th of October! An interactive exhibition, tango shows, workshops, concerts and even a dancing evening with a great grandson of Mieczysław Fogg – these are just some of the attractions offered to the participants of “Polish tango” project.
Tango involves dance, music full of emotions and closeness. It was born in Argentina, Uruguay, then in the early twentieth century it conquered Europe with its exotic charm.
The phenomenon of Polish tango – involving Polish lyrics, music created by Polish composers and performed by prominent interwar artists, including Mieczysław Fogg, Hanka Ordonówna and Stefan Witas – was born in Poland.
From the 26th to 28th of October the organizers invite you for a weekend with the Polish tango at Kieleckie Centrum Kultury. Trendy Tango” exhibition officially start on Friday (the 26th of October)”. The exhibition will present the history of tango in Poland from its beginnings in 1913 to the 1940s. One of the topics will refer to the change in styles and the evolution of evening gowns present on the inter-war dance floors.
The opening of the exhibition will be accompanied by a curator’s tour, a dance party – milonga and dance shows. Tango enthusiasts associated with milonga group Abrazo in Kielce, training under the watchful eye of Maestro Paweł Cheda will present their skills. We will admire the following dancers: Anna Żelazo i Paweł Cheda, Hanna i Norbert Konieczkiewicz, Ewelina Woźniczka i Piotr Siwoń.
What is more, the participants will have a chance to take their first tango steps on the dance floor. Three tango workshops are planned (26,27.10). The organizers encourage everyone to participate – young people, adults, seniors. The lessons are adapted to the needs of the visually impaired.
The unique character of Polish tango was emphasized by musical influences which revived in 1918 during the Second Polish Republic. The atmosphere of those days will be reconstructed thanks to retro dancing party (27.10) which will be conducted by the great grandson of Mieczysław Fogg – Michał Fogg.
The celebration of Tango in Kielce will last until December. A tango concert of an Argentinean artist Carlos Roulet and intergenerational dance workshops will take place as part of the celebration of the International Tango Day (11.12).
Entry to all the events is free. You have to enrol to tango workshops.
