We invite you to an unusual exhibition – Around Master Antoine, which takes place on 18 May at 6.00 P.M. at the “WINDA” Gallery of Contemporary Art, Plac Moniuszki 2B, Kielce.
“Small Fiat (Fiat 126P) and a big hat” – sang Zula Pogorzelska in a song titled “To mi wystarczy” (“That’s enough for me”). And she was right – a properly selected hairstyle and beautiful hat are not a dream, but rather a fundamental need in case of numerous women. The history of this piece of clothing is the part of the history of fashion and even the history of mankind, since one can notice special hats on frescos from the Stone Age. And then … Then the imagination of hairdressers, hatters and designers has been endless …
Regardless of the part of the world one lives in, the hats have not only protected against rain or sun, but also have become a symbol of social status and an expression of the need for beauty, just like the hair style itself. This tendency could have been observed on stage as well. Hats, wigs or masks symbolized the nature of the character and emphasized his or her features. They emphasized the beauty and made the beasts more expressive and frightening. Theatrical set designers and costume designers have been outrunning one another as regards concepts for the most fascinating, the most peculiar and the most beautiful hats, but they also repeatedly recreated old models. Today, one can admire an eighteenth-century tricorn or a Bergere only in theatre. And one will be able to check how they look liked during the exhibition with Antoni Cierplikowski as a central character, who is one of the most famous hairdressers in history, known as Antoine. Antoine’s hair and hat designs will be accompanied by hats and stage hats designed by other well-known set designers. The exhibits originated from the collection of the Theatre Museum in Warsaw.
